Charlie Redden has spent the last 30 years representing physicians, healthcare institutions and allied healthcare providers throughout Illinois. The son of medical professionals, Charlie has a distinct passion for the defense of medical negligence claims. He prides himself on providing not only the highest level of competence, but also compassion in the representation of healthcare providers which consistently result in the best possible results for his clients.

Charlie’s record as a trial lawyer is notable for both the sheer number of cases he has brought to a successful verdict and the defense verdicts earned in medical cases involving catastrophic injuries or death and complex medical issues of liability.

Over the course of his career Charlie he has defended physicians in nearly every medical subspecialty as well as podiatrists, chiropractors, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants and other allied health practitioners. He has also represented physicians in matters before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Charlie carries Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV rating, and he has been consistently recognized by a number of entities that annually rate top medical malpractice litigation attorneys, including Illinois’ Top Lawyers, Leading Lawyers and Super Lawyers. He has also been recognized in national listings, including the National Academy of Jurisprudence and the National Academy of Trial Lawyers (among the Premier 100), the Expert Network’s Distinguished Lawyer Designation (awarded to the top-ranked 3 percent of attorneys in his field) and Strathmore’s Who’s Who, among others.

Charlie was also recently elected to the Society of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only membership which comprises Illinois’ top trial lawyers.

Outside work, Charlie devotes considerable time organizing and participating in service work, including the Appalachian Service Project. Along with his wife, Charlie established the Save a Soul Foundation, an Illinois charity that funds secondary education for Kenyan children and which financed the building of an orphanage in Limuru, Kenya.

Cunningham, Meyer & Vedrine is the preeminent healthcare litigation defense firm in Illinois. It was designed that way by its founders, and this focus continues more than two decades later.

Throughout the firm’s history, our attorneys have been involved in the cases that define medical negligence (malpractice) defense law in Illinois, shaping the way the law is interpreted to benefit our clients and protecting their rights as litigants.

Physicians, medical professionals, hospitals, ambulatory centers, clinics, healthcare associations, and their insuring entities, have benefited from our depth of understanding of the complex issues in medical negligence matters.

Focused on avoiding litigation, CMV attorneys are trusted advisors to many major insurance groups and regularly speak to clients and industry groups on best practices in documentation, patient communication and other areas to help protect against claims. We often review a hospital’s litigation history to provide recommendations on curtailing or modifying practices that have become a liability.

Additionally, we counsel physicians through the full life cycle of medical malpractice claims, from providing strategies to avoid claims through to the successful defense of post settlement/judgment claims, through navigating the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation inquiries.

The firm has also represented a variety of other professionals, including dentists, accountants, lawyers and engineers where their professional competence and judgment is subject to review in the courts and administrative hearings.

Cunningham Meyer & Vedrine offers services in the areas of medical malpractice and professional malpractice defense including the representation of all types of professional license holders in matters pending before the Illiniois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Our firm also specializes in other areas of insurance defense including automobile accidents, premises liability and business owner claims.

Since the inception of CMV, the preeminent philosophy of the firm is that the client has a right to know how they are being represented in a litigation matter, and who the team members are that are being assembled to achieve a successful outcome. We encourage our clients to have constant input in the management of the case, and become an involved part of the litigation process. It is our belief that the client is an important and valued member of the litigation team.

We instil this tenet within our attorneys, who are exceptionally talented, creative and experienced litigators, whether in mediation, arbitration or trial forums. This synergism between client and attorney allows us to provide superior legal litigation representation that many people mistakenly believe can be only provided by large, national firms, whose focus may not singularly be within the litigation field. We believe that focused litigation expertise should be valued, not diluted, by the promise of being “all things for all people.” As a consequence, no client, and no matter, how big or small the issue may appear to be, receives nothing less than the total commitment and focus of our firm.
